What are Varicose/Spider Veins?
Varicose veins are veins that have been enlarged and appear blue, red or flesh-colored. These types of veins are swollen and appear to bulging from the surface of the skin. What Causes Varicose Veins?
Weak or damaged valves in veins can cause them to turn varicose. Veins have valves that prevent blood from flowing backwards as it moves up the leg. If these valves become weak, blood can leak back into the veins and collect there. This back-up or accumulation of blood can cause veins to enlarge and become varicose.
